Since 1922, the Man-a-Mile Relay has had a history of providing a venue for a Thanksgiving Monday morning of fun, participation and sometimes even a competitive challenge. The Relay begins at Fort George in Niagara-On-The-Lake, follows the scenic path along the lower Niagara River and finishes at Oakes Park in Niagara Falls. Team members run or jog their mile, passing the baton on to the next team member a mile up the path. The first goal for every participant is “to have fun”.
Three years ago, the Man-A-Mile Relay added another option for those teams who wish to raise funds for their favorite charity. “The Box Run” team (for those facing childhood cancers) and “Bridges for Autism” team are two examples of funds raised for specific charities. Other than the Man-a-Mile team registration fee, 100% of the money raised is donated by the team to the team’s designated charity. Also an option, is if a team finds a corporate sponsor who can opt to cover the team's entry fees*, even more funds can go toward the team's cause.
NOTE: The Man-A-Mile organization nor the corporate sponsors do not oversee any of these fundraising efforts and do not provide tax receipts. The individual teams are responsible for the funds raised and tax receipts are provided by the team’s designated charity, if applicable.)
The process to participate is simple.
1.. Register your team with Man-a-Mile’s director, (as all teams do).
2. Connect with your charity to see if any third-party fundraising contracts or guidelines are required.
3. The organizers of the Man-A-Mile would like to know if your team plans to “Go the Extra Mile” for the organization of their choice. Contact the Race Director here to register your team in the relay or to ask any other questions.
This is a great opportunity to fundraise while having team fun!
* Note: Team entry fees go to cover the cost of the T-shirts, the necessary permits, and any other expenses required to run this event.
